The On Cloud X 4 in Glacier Stone is the shoe built for the training that happens before the run — or instead of it. Where the Cloudmonster and Cloudsurfer are engineered for forward motion, for the accumulation of miles in a single direction, the Cloud X is engineered for the training session that moves in every direction: the squat and the jump and the lateral cut and the burpee and the moment when you need to stop moving in one direction and immediately start moving in another. It is On's answer to the question of what a training shoe should be when the training is not running — and the answer, in the fourth generation of the Cloud X, is a shoe that has been refined through enough iterations to know exactly what it needs to do and how to do it. Glacier Stone Colorway

Glacier is the blue-grey of ice that has been compressed by time into something denser and more permanent than ordinary ice — the color of the interior of a glacier, where the air has been squeezed out and the ice has become almost translucent, almost mineral. Stone is the grey-brown of the earth beneath the glacier, the color of the material that has been shaped by the same forces that shaped the ice above it. Together on the Cloud X 4, Glacier Stone creates a palette that is simultaneously cool and grounded: the blue-grey of the upper providing the cool precision that training demands, the stone tones of the midsole and outsole providing the groundedness that stability requires. Cloud X 4 — Fourth-Generation Training

The Cloud X 4 is built on On's training-specific platform, which differs from the running platform in three fundamental ways. First, the heel-to-toe drop is significantly lower than On's running shoes — closer to zero — which places the foot in a more neutral position for the multidirectional demands of training and allows the foot's natural stabilizing muscles to engage more fully during loaded movements like squats and lunges. Second, the forefoot is wider and the outsole contact area is larger, providing the base of support that lateral movements and loaded exercises require. Third, the CloudTec® pod configuration is tuned for vertical load rather than forward motion: the pods compress and return energy in the vertical plane, providing cushioning for jump landings and explosive movements rather than the horizontal energy return that running demands. The fourth generation refines all three of these characteristics with improved pod geometry for more consistent compression response across the full range of training movements, a wider heel for improved stability during heavy lifts, and an updated upper construction that provides more structure at the midfoot for the lateral support that agility work requires.
